Students of the Aristides Atelier are pleased to take part in Allan Carroll's workshop in the first week of December. Derived from the French gris, grisaille painting is done monochromatically in tones of sepia or gray; traditionally utilizing casts as subject matter, grisaille painting allows students to focus on value to accurately describe form without the distraction of color. Over the course of five days, Mr. Carroll plans to paint a stunning 42x78" panel after Gerard de Lairesse along with the students. Including both decorative and figurative trompe l'oeil elements, this panel will push the students' understanding of decorative grisaille painting.
