Atelier Workshop

Are you ready to take the leap? Whether a novice or professional artist, the workshops I offer will provide you with a unique opportunity to boost your confidence and develop your technical aptitude. The layered, well-tested curriculum will challenge you while the friendly, focused environment will support you reaching your artistic potential. Emphasis is placed on learning tangible tools for self-correction; a solid pathway to technical proficiency.

The workshop will enhance your exploration of a great tradition. What to expect: Daily demonstrations, lectures and group discussions with an emphasis on practical skill building. Expect individual guidance and plenty of opportunity to integrate information into your artistic tools. Lessons are given in the mornings and the afternoons are devoted to the application and practice of newly introduced principles.

Master Class with Juliette Aristides

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is proud to host Juliette Artistides for this two-day classical figure drawing intensive. Using the 19th-century beaux arts curriculum, gain the skills to accurately and confidently draw the human figure. Learn to comprehend the figure’s essential structure and build upon that foundation with a study of value and form. Gain from demonstration of the entire drawing process, including materials and techniques, discussions, individual assistance and valuable advice for continued study beyond the class. Held in the PAFA’s historic classrooms and cast hall. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.

Join Atelier instructor Juliette Aristides, and Gage art historian, Carol Hendricks, for this unparalleled opportunity to study art and architecture of the Renaissance while refining your drawing skills. During this 2-week Florence intensive, your nationally-respected instructor, Aristides, focuses on classical drawing techniques for depicting the magnificent sculptures and buildings of Florence. Concurrently, Hendricks, your Italian art history expert, introduces you to some of Europe's greatest masterpieces installed in the city's beautiful churches and extraordinary museums.

Your principal text book for your drawing workshop is Juliette Artistides' Lessons in Classical Drawing: Essential Techniques from Inside the Atelier, published by Random House.

Bay Area Classical Artist Atelier - 345 Quarry Rd. San Carlos CA 94070

Juliette Aristides and Jon DeMartin are teaming up to teach this intensive dual workshop during the month of August, 2013. You can choose to study with both Ms. Aristides and Mr. DeMartin or exclusively with Ms. Aristides.

Build your artistic vocabulary as you work sequentially to complete one finished figure painting. In a methodical, step-by-step process, learn the methods of oil painting from the initial color sketch to the final glaze. Over the course days we will dive into painting related issue while exploring the artists most fascinating subject matter- the human figure. You develop a preliminary drawing to ensure accuracy and likeness, create a monochromatic or color study to analyze shape, tone and composition and transfer your drawing to canvas o panel as you execute your painting in full color. Lectures and individual instruction aid your artistic progress. This workshop provides you with the necessary tools to bolster your artistic confidence. Much of the personal growth of the artist comes from having the right tools for self-correction and problem solving. With that in mind throughout the class, you participate in discussion on materials, methods and techniques to equip you with every possible tool for your future artistic growth. Beginners through advanced students are welcome. You are met at whatever your skill level.
